Jassen Harris Supports PAES’ 70th Year at ICEE-Phil 2025
The Philippine Association of Engineering Schools (PAES) marked a historic milestone on September 12–13, 2025, as it hosted the 8th International Conference on Engineering Education – Philippines (ICEE-Phil 2025), its annual General Assembly, and the grand celebration of its 70th anniversary at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
With the theme “Innovating Engineering Education for a Sustainable and Digital Future,” the two-day hybrid gathering brought together faculty members, academic administrators, and engineering leaders from nearly 200 schools across the Philippines, alongside international guests, to exchange ideas, share best practices, and reaffirm their collective mission: to ensure that no engineering school is left behind.
Guiding the Future of Engineering Education

The event opened with a powerful keynote address from Hon. Desiderio Apag III, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Drawing from his extensive background in engineering, academia, and quality assurance, Dr. Apag emphasized the importance of innovation, ethics, and global competitiveness in preparing Filipino engineers for the demands of the future.
Plenary sessions further deepened the conversation.
- Dr. Mildred M. Libot, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED-OIQAG, shared her insights on quality assurance and transformative policies shaping higher education.
- Prof. Ir. Dr. Denny Ng Kok Sum, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Sunway University, Malaysia, brought an international perspective, highlighting sustainability, research, and global collaboration as drivers of curriculum reform.
These thought leaders set the tone for two days of rich discussions on how Philippine engineering education can adapt and thrive in the era of digitalization and sustainability.
Workshops: Equipping Educators for Today and Tomorrow.
Two specialized workshops gave participants hands-on opportunities to engage with urgent challenges in education:
- Teaching and Learning Engineering Ethics Toward the Attainment of Relevant Student Outcomes (by ASEE Philippine Branch) helped educators strengthen their approaches to teaching ethics, applying theory and practice to real-world engineering dilemmas.
- Engineering Education 5.0: Validating a Curriculum Framework for Future-Ready Engineers (by Engr. Alexa Ray Fernando) explored the competencies required in Industry 5.0, inviting participants to validate a framework that blends sustainability, resilience, and human-centric skills.
Both sessions reinforced PAES’ commitment to continuous faculty development and future-oriented learning.

Celebrating 70 Years of PAES
This year’s conference was also a time of reflection and celebration, as PAES marked its 70th anniversary. For seven decades, PAES has served as the voice of engineering schools in the Philippines, fostering collaboration, setting standards, and championing the advancement of engineering education. The anniversary reminded participants of the association’s enduring mission: to strengthen academic institutions, uplift engineering programs, and ensure that the benefits of innovation reach every corner of the country.
Jassen Harris at ICEE-Phil 2025

The conference also highlighted the vital role of industry partners in supporting the academic community. Jassen Harris Industries Corp., a proud sponsor of ICEE-Phil 2025, demonstrated its commitment to empowering engineering schools nationwide through active participation over both days of the event.
On Day 1, the Jassen Harris booth featured cutting-edge measurement and instrumentation tools, giving faculty and administrators firsthand exposure to technologies that can enhance classroom teaching and laboratory instruction. On Day 2, the focus shifted to integrated systems and real-world applications, aligning with the competencies required by Industry 5.0.

Educators and students who visited the booth engaged in meaningful conversations on how these solutions could be embedded in curriculum design, capstone projects, and institutional research initiatives. More than an exhibit, it became a space for collaboration, reflecting Jassen Harris’ vision of being not only a technology provider but a strategic partner for Philippine engineering schools.
Through its sponsorship and presence, Jassen Harris reinforced PAES’ call of “No Engineering School Left Behind,” standing alongside educators in their shared mission to produce future-ready, globally competitive graduates.
Looking Ahead
ICEE-Phil 2025 and the PAES 70th anniversary celebration succeeded in bringing together the academic community and its partners to envision a future where engineering education is sustainable, digital, and inclusive.
From visionary keynote speeches and transformative workshops to inspiring student competitions and strong industry-academia linkages, the two-day event reaffirmed the collective determination of PAES and its partners: to nurture engineers who can meet the challenges of tomorrow while uplifting communities today.
